Girl Scout Service Unit event: Holidays around the World (12/6/14)

Girl Scout Troop 5864 did a fantastic job with coordinating Holidays around the World for around 40 girls in our service unit. They planned the stations, food, and decorations. Each girl chose a country, researched holiday traditions, created a display, planned an activity, and brought a snack. Our attendees then rotated around the stations. Emmy did her station on holiday traditions in Argentina, and, in her area, girls made Christmas trees with cotton balls on them. Emmy also served as MC during the opening and closing. Overall, our girls did a terrific job, much to the amazement of adults who didn't really believe that teens could run such a great event!!

Lunch with Santa-- 12/6/14

Every year, we go to Lunch with Santa at the rec center, and it was fun to continue this tradition in 2014. Emmy's getting too cool to actually sit on Santa's lap, but Ellie-Kate is still very into it... We're really glad to still have one little girl who loves the jolly ol' elf :)

Cupcakes for Holidays around the World-- 12/5/14

Cute cupcakes for the Girl Scout "Holidays around the World" event that Emmy's Girl Scout troop planned and conducted for our service unit. Can't take full credit-- love the cupcake kits from Walmart!

Athens High School State Championship Game-- December 4, 2014

Emmy, Patricia, and Ellie-Kate waited to wave to the team as they drove up to Columbus for the big game. Athens High School played Toledo Central Catholic for the state title on December 4, 2014. The temperature was chilly (around 20 degrees), but we stayed warm during the game as we cheered on the Bulldogs. The game was definitely an offensive struggle, and the Bulldogs fought mightily-- we were the only public school to play for the state title in years, and private schools are able to recruit very big players. Yet, we matched them, score for score. In the end, the Bulldogs beat the state record for scoring in a year, and the teams broke the record for most points scored in a state title game. Unfortunately, we came up just a tad short on a pretty much last minute drive by the other team. However, even though the guys were devastated by the loss, southeast Ohio was incredibly proud of our tenacious team!
