Chelsea Meagan's 20th birthday-- July 20, 2014

Well, the days of birthday trips to Chuckie Cheese and the zoo have been replaced with a trip to the manicurist with big sister Britti. Meanwhile, Ellie-Kate played in the nearby mall playground while her big sisters got their nails done :)

After cake, Chelsea insisted on watching "The Blind Side" at home-- definitely a much more quiet birthday than in previous years...

Soccer tournament at Mason-- July 18-19, 2014

"All I want for the fair are my two front teeth!" Ellie-Kate lost her second front tooth in a week when we were having dinner at Golden Corral in Mason. We were stunned by the cold, rainy weather on Friday night, and we were shocked to learn that our hotel had rooms with bed bugs (not our room, praise God!) Otherwise, we had fun with shopping on Saturday, warmer weather, and yummy food at Cracker Barrel. Wishing that we could have had time to go to nearby King's Island, but the shopping and soccer were pleasant. Emmy played well, and we enjoyed getting to know the other soccer parents.

VBS memories... July 17, 2014

What a bittersweet ending to this year's VBS... As I finished performing that night, I realized that it was very likely that I would never stand on the ABC stage again. How incredibly odd...

VBS week is usually one of my favorite weeks of the year-- a tremendous time of fellowship and ministry. This year was heavily tinged with sadness, loss, and disbelief. Blessedly, Ellie-Kate still had a great time with her little friends, and Emmy enjoyed hanging out with her friends, Patricia and Madison, as they helped with the younger children. If God has moved us beyond ABC, we're forever grateful for 20 years of happy memories, including weeks of VBS. Definitely praying for God's will for our family and for revival and healing for all of us during this difficult time of transition for our individual and church families...

Copperheads baseball clinic-- July 16, 2014

Ellie-Kate is obsessed with the Copperheads and with baseball, and she was thrilled to participate in their clinic. She got to bat in their batting cages, work with their players, sit in the dugout, and play on the big field. She had a blast!!

Still Project Judging-- July 15, 2014

Emmy and Coco did such a phenomenal job at Still Project judging!! Emmy handled all of her interactions with such poise, and Coco was a pro as well!! They did a great job during You and Your Dog and Pet Pals, earning first place in both categories :)

Vacation Bible School... July 14, 2014

For this year's Vacation Bible School, we had a CSI-type theme, and Christie was a master of disguise. Can you spot her in the above photo? She's actually hiding right in the big chair!

Yes, that's her in that lamp!

On this night, she went back to Bible times and witnessed Jesus as He turned water into wine and multiplied fish and bread for the 5000. She also "fell" into the sea and got caught up in the net, along with lots of smelly (and real!) fish.

County Food and Nutrition Judging-- July 14, 2014

Emmy did an awesome job at the county food and nutrition judging competition, earning first place with a score of 98 out of 100!

Cloverbud fun-- July 13, 2014

Maggie, Maddie, Maddie's friend, Addie, and Ellie-Kate had a great time at Cloverbuds!

Rio Grande Soccer Camp-- July 6, 2014

Emmy and Maddie were the only freshmen to attend the team soccer camp at Rio Grande University. They've known each other since kindergarten, though, so it was wonderful that they shared a room... well, a suite. These dorm rooms were really two room gems, complete with a sink and fridge! Emmy worked hard during camp and had a great time :)

Catching up... September 20, 2014

Hi everyone--

Yes, it's been a few months... After the blur of Britti's wedding and finishing my book, we launched right into 4-H, sports, and back-to-school. And on top of all of that... we had major drama at our church. The entire saga has been gut-wrenching, but, truly, God is good-- all of the time, and He is sovereign. He has everything all under control (when we don't try to snatch the "steering wheel" of our life situations on our own).

As of right now, our family is no longer at our now former church. We honored our commitment to VBS in July, and I spent about four weeks praying while we visited other churches. After my meeting with church leadership in late August, I officially asked to be removed from the church roll. Again, what a heart-breaking decision... I miss our church family so much... The girls are doing well, though. Both of them really like Brookfield Church, and I like it a great deal too. The sermons are inspiring and valuable; Ellie-Kate loves the bouncy house in the kids' area, and Emmy enjoys the youth ministry. The people are wonderfully welcoming too! However, the entire ordeal has consumed so much emotional, spiritual, and physical energy, not to mention time.

Blessedly, I'm starting to move beyond rewinding the series of events over and over again in my mind, instead trusting God that He will lead us where we should worship and guide me about how to handle this tough situation... Twenty years in a church is a long time... 20 years of relationships... 20 years of commitment, investment, tradition... 20 years in which children have come into our family and grown in the church. Chelsea Meagan, Emmy, and Ellie-Kate had never known any other church family.

We're grateful for loving friends and for a welcoming new church family... a church family that prioritizes God, love, community, and relationships. With this situation new yet now stable, I can start to dedicate time to catching up on important tasks that I had to put on the back-burner while dealing with church drama amid other work and family commitments-- such as our family blog.

Over the next few weeks, I hope to catch up on our blog. Many, many amazing things have happened over the past few months. God has truly provided for us, blessed us, and enabled us to not only survive this particular storm but thrive in other aspects of our lives as well. In closing, please know that I continue to pray for our home church-- for the leadership, for healing, for revival. One day, we hope to be able to go back, if and when it becomes God's will for us to do so. In the meantime, we're grateful for Facebook as a means of keeping up with long-time friends and for living in a small town where we are guaranteed to run into people at Walmart (especially if I'm running in for one item after working out and sweating a lot!).

Thanks for caring about our family... I'll be back with more updates very soon :)

Fondly--

Christie
