Hi everyone--
It has been an insanely busy time in the Beck-Aden house... Guess that my posts usually start with that observation, right? We have been blessed with wonderful opportunities; the kids have been healthy, and God has been abundantly generous to all of us.
I celebrate the many gifts and blessings that we can savor in our home. Ellie-Kate is doing amazing at school; she loves her teacher and her best friend, Jack. She had a wonderful time with soccer, and she's enjoying dance and AWANA!
Emmy has been ROCKING middle school!!! She played so well during soccer season, and she's going to be the point guard for the seventh grade basketball team. She's doing so well in school too-- she earned straight A+s, except for one lonely A. She's mad that I didn't post that little statistic on facebook, but I figured that such a post would be off the chart bragging :) Between sports and grades, she's also doing Model UN and Science Fair. It's nice that Emmy loves everything and is doing so well, but, wow, she's exhausted by Thursday. Still figuring out how she can best balance this load...
Britti is excited about the wedding, and it was so much fun to go over to Marietta and walk through the hotel for her reception and the church for her ceremony! We need to carve some more time to go wedding dress shopping, but, blessedly, we have a year and a half before May, 2014!
Chelsea has finally found her footing between the social freedom of college and the responsibility of managing her own schedule. She's trying to find a job, and she's working to get the necessary materials for sorority rush. On the plus side, she earned a perfect score (100) on her first major paper in college, and she is doing very well overall, especially after dropping her pesky bio class :)
I'm very reflective this time of year as I think about the events that led to us bringing Ellie-Kate into our family four years ago as well as the events leading up to Britti's birth, now 26 years ago... Even in the chaos and clutter of our lives, I'm grateful for this space to pause, to celebrate, to reflect, to rejoice in the miracles of our family. Thank you, God, for allowing us to be the family for Ellie-Kate!

Special memories...
Four years ago, right after trick-or-treating, we sat in our living room, and I happened to mention the picture of a little baby that I couldn't stop revisiting on the internet... Her pic was in the top left hand corner of the Living Hope special needs website, and the staff had nicknamed her "Kristen." Although stunningly beautiful, she had a long list of special needs, and they seemed far beyond what we could handle as a busy family. Yet, I couldn't stop staring into those eyes... Jenn, one of our friends, gently reminded me that she gave birth to a "healthy" baby yet has experienced so many problems with her daughter's health. We never know what's going to happen or what we are going to need to face. After that conversation, Roger and I agreed to visit with the International Adoption Clinic at Children's, and we made an appointment for November 1.
As I think about Ellie-Kate and our journey, I treasure this time of year... We stepped out in faith, and God has blessed us so very, very much with our precious little girl. He blessed us with amazing friends, tremendous moments, and rich emotions of hope, faith, joy, trust, and excitement.
Thank you, Father, for great friends and for the blessing of Ellie-Kate in our lives!!
Praising Him!!

Trick-or-Treat-- October 25, 2012
Christie, Britti, Ellie-Kate, Roger, and Emmy
Ellie-Kate and Ellie, the dog-- We just met her while trick-or-treating tonight :)
Emma and Emmy-- just a couple of nerds :)
Carter and Ellie-Kate
We had an awesome time during trick-or treat tonight!! It was so wonderful to walk around our neighborhood in such lovely fall weather-- beautiful blue skies and temps in the 80s! Emmy walked around with a group of middle school friends and then went to a party at a friend's house. Ellie-Kate was hoping to trick or treat with a friend in the neighborhood too, but we didn't connect with him until very late. She had a great time anyway :)

Random reflections...
Hi everyone--
Well, it's been another busy time for the Beck-Aden family, but not quite as zany as the summer... Ellie-Kate has been loving pre-school. She goes every morning and stays on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons. Her friends include Jack, Corbin, and Macie, and she adores her teacher, Miss Tammy. She has been having a good time with soccer, and she is even enjoying dance this year (thanks, Miss Kelly!). She's dabbling in gymnastics at Twist and Twirl, an activity that she does every Thursday at pre-school, and we're starting to work with her at home on reading (thanks A Beka curriculum!).
Emmy has been a blur of activity-- soccer every day from 3-5 p.m. Girl Scouts, Model UN, Science Fair, band, cello, and, of course, school. She's doing awesome in her classes, earning all As thus far, but, wow, she's just exhausted. We're looking forward to at least a bit of a break between soccer season and basketball season.
Chelsea is loving Baylor. She's hit a few speed bumps during her first few weeks at school, and she's still looking for a job, but, overall, she's doing very well. She's earning good grades in her classes, and she's hoping to rush a sorority in January. In the meantime, she's hanging out with friends, studying, and competing on the Baylor Club Tennis team. In fact, in her first match, she played doubles, and they beat their opponents 6-1. Her team placed fourth in its bracket. Very cool!!
Britti is busy with 4-H stuff and wedding planning. We're hoping to secure the location and finalize dress selection in the next month.
Roger has been busy with soccer, prepping for his book and a leave grant, and helping with all of the kid stuff. Meanwhile, I have been busy with regular work stuff as well as developing campaign materials for my candidacy for NCA Second Vice President...
This whole election thing has been very odd-- definitely unfamiliar territory. On the one hand, I want to spread the word about my qualifications, interests, etc. On the other hand, I'm not comfortable with doing things that scream "hey, look at me." I've definitely learned that I wouldn't want to be a career politician! I truly love doing association work, and I'd be very grateful for the chance to do it, but it was very odd to introduce myself and hand out flyers at OCA. I'm not a "look at me" kind of gal-- I'm much more of a roll up my sleeves and do the work kind of gal. I'm really struggling to navigate what is appropriate, what is expected, what is obnoxious, etc. in terms of putting myself forward for this office. I absolutely *loved* the chance to meet new people at OCA. I'm just going to relax and enjoy those same types of interactions at NCA. It's so much fun to chat with new people and to hear their ideas and to learn about their experiences. Even if nothing else comes from this adventure, what a cool "take-away" it will be to gain some new friends in the discipline and to re-connect with old ones. I'm smiling as I type now because my friends in the discipline have been very cool and supportive, and they have really been amazing.
As always, thanks for listening and for caring about our family! I'd better head for bed so I can get up tomorrow for another busy week!!

Well, between the temperature (50 degrees!) and light rain, none of us was really very comfortable at Ellie-Kate's soccer game. However, Ellie-Kate finally warmed up (literally) by the end, and she scored two goals in the last quarter! Yeah, Ellie-Kate!!
4-H Awards Ceremony-- October 6, 2012
Britti (the Athens County 4-H educator) poses with Pet Pals members, including Emmy.
Emmy was recognized for Pet Pals, Outstanding Exhibitor (rabbits and dog), Skillathon winner (rabbits), and County Award winner for Food and Nutrition. Chelsea won a county award for leadership. Britti did a super job on the ceremony so, overall, a very nice night for our family!
