Hi Everyone--
Elie-Kate celebrated her 21 month birthday by trick or treating for the very first time (ever!) in uptown Athens on Monday, October 26. Blessedly, she put on her costume without drama. (She was not thrilled when she put it on for the first time a few weeks ago, but, after watching the Barney Halloween video and reading about Dora's Halloween costume, she was willing to get in the act!) Ellie-Kate is "Boo" from Monster's Inc.; Emmy is a "top chef;" Chelsea is one of the three blind mice (with two of her friends), and Britti is little Bo Peep.
We had a great time with trick or treat as we went around to the businesses on Monday and an even better time tonight (10/29). The little girls got lots of yummy candy, and Britti and Chelsea passed out candy and pretzels at home. Afterward, Emmy and Roger went to the big party at the rec center, and Emmy even took a prize for her "air guitar" performance.
Britti and Chelsea Meagan plan to attend the huge block party in Athens on Saturday night, but we won't likely take the little girls. Instead, Emmy is excited about hosting a Halloween sports party on Saturday afternoon, and I'm sure that we'll have fun with decorating pumpkins, etc.
We are so blessed that Ellie-Kate is here with us on this Halloween, and it's hard not to think about our decision-making at exactly this time last year. Praise God for leading us to this precious baby. We truly can't imagine our lives without her!!
Happy Halloween!!

Christie's big adventure
Thanks to my amazing husband, I got to travel to Pittsburgh last week-end for the "So Long Springfield" event. As many of you know, I am a long-time fan of the show. In fact, my first memory is of watching the show with my mom. Anyway, I had my first solo trip since China and enjoyed a great time of meeting fellow fans as well as 11 stars from the show. Lots of special memories... :)

One year ago today-- 10/24/09
On October 24, 2008, we received an e-mail from Living Hope Adoption Agency, letting us know that a new waiting child list was available. Eagerly, I entered my password and clicked to open the webpage. In the top left-hand corner, I saw the picture of a beautiful baby girl with big brown eyes and a small patch of hair in the middle of her head (to be lovingly referred to by Emmy later as a "mohawk"). The baby sat in a high chair with her toy duck (see right side of this blog). "Kristin" (the English name given to her by Living Hope) was only eight months old, and her eyes were so beautiful yet heart-wrenchingly sad and questioning. My heart yearned for her ... yet, after reading her health conditions, I realized that they seemed to extend beyond what we had agreed to handle, and I continued to scroll down the page. In that moment, one year ago today, I met the little girl who would become our daughter. As I gazed into her eyes, God planted the seed in my heart, and I praise Him for nudging us to trust Him and to allow Him to guide us to our precious Ellie-Kate. Thanks so much, Father, for helping us to step out in faith and for blessing us with such an amazing (and healthy!!) baby girl :) I will always cherish October 24 as a very special anniversary of one of the most important moments of our lives!!

Quick Update--10/10/09
Hi Everyone--
The past couple of weeks have been a wee bit stressful... On Thursday, October 1, we learned that Chelsea has mono-- right before AHS homecoming, tennis sectionals, and play auditions. To make a long story short, she slept through the homecoming parade and game, but I let her go to the dance on Saturday, October 3, for an hour or so because the doctor had initially even cleared her to play tennis as of that Sunday. Unfortunately, it really set back her progress, and she ended up missing this past week of school-- as well as tennis sectionals and play auditions (heavy sigh...).
Otherwise, we've been busy with Ellie-Kate (of course!), soccer (Emmy), work, etc. Emmy's soccer team is doing great (3-1 winning record thus far!), and Ellie-Kate is LOVING opportunities to play with other kids. We go to Wee Wigglers at the rec center and visit with other toddlers in the church nursery, and she's on Cloud Nine!! We have season tickets to the OU women's volleyball games, and the younger girls really enjoy going. Ellie-Kate is *NOT* sure what to make of our mascot, the bobcat, though :)
We're glad that we have another October holiday (Mid-Autumn Festival) to celebrate, and we did so by going to the Chinese restaurant. We're slowly introducing Ellie-Kate to the idea of Halloween, and we're hoping that she get excited about wearing the Boo costume (from Monster's Inc.) that we "won" on e-bay.
Hope that all is well with our blog readers!! We'll try to post more pictures and update soon :)
