After surviving a stroke, Izzy was doing great... until he suddenly stopped eating in early September. We took him to our local vet on September 8, and the substitute vet diagnosed him with a tumor, but she didn't do any diagnostics so she was really guessing. After thinking and praying about it, I realized that I couldn't live with myself if we didn't know that we couldn't help. I drove to Medvet on September 10, and we met with a fantastic vet, Dr. Melissa Wallace. She took time and care, and they did an ultrasound, discovering that Izzy had lymphoma. Although we decided not to do chemotherapy, we started a steroid treatment. By this time, Izzy had gone about 10 days without eating. Dr. Wallace said that, if Izzy didn't eat by the end of the week-end, he likely wasn't going to do so. Although he fought (as much as he had strength to fight) the meds, we had to try and help him... Still, Izzy wanted to live-- he continued to walk around and even climb up stairs and jump on the couch. As long as he wanted to be here, we wanted to help him to stay...
