On Friday, April 18, Roger and Christie were talking about the possibility of getting a new dog after the wedding. Coco doesn't like to be at the shows, and Emmy loves it so we thought that we could retire Coco and add another puppy to the family for Emmy to show. Roger wanted for the dog to be a bit older so that we wouldn't have all of the puppy stress. Anyway, we decided to take a peek on petfinder.com. When we saw the photo of a beautiful border collie-Newfoundland mix. The dog was in a shelter in Kentucky, and the description indicated that it was about three years old-- a bit older than what we were thinking, but we fell in love. We interacted over e-mail and facebook with volunteers from the shelter, and, with every new detail, we fell more and more in love with this dog. On Monday morning, Christie called the shelter and asked if it was okay with cats. The guy at the shelter did a quick test with the dog and a cat, and the dog didn't seem to care about the cat at all. Roger jumped in the car, drove three hours to Kentucky, bought the dog, and headed home. After a few days, we decided on the name "Trixie," the same name as one of Christie's favorite characters from a childhood book series and the same name as one of our stuffed border collies. She's absolutely adorable and, except for some toilet training issues, seems amazingly smart and loving!
