Hi everyone--
Early on Wednesday morning, I stayed up after everyone else went to bed... My mom had just stayed after the dance recital, but everyone else on our side of the family was due to arrive on Wednesday before the wedding. As I worked on some details for the book and then the rehearsal dinner, it occurred to me that this quiet lull would not last long. Soon, our house would be filled with relatives from all sides of both new branches of our family. Images of scenes from National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation sprang to mind. The ominous ding dong of the doorbell from that movie echoed through my head.
Later that day, I drove to Columbus, picked up the tuxedos, and headed to the airport to meet Chelsea's 9:50 p.m. flight. Just before I met her, Britti called with last minute drama about Chelsea's dress. Although we had an appointment with the seamstress for final alterations on her dress scheduled for Thursday, apparently, she had misremembered our meeting and was going to be out of town on Thursday. Fortunately (or so we thought at the time), she had inserted a corsette back in Chelsea's dress (instead of just taking in a few tucks on the sides) so Britti drove out to pick it up that night. We thought that the crisis had been averted... More on that drama later...
When Chelsea and I got home, everyone but Roger was already asleep. The blur of Wedding Week-end was about to begin...
