Hi everyone--
Well, I planned to post an update today, but I didn't figure that I'd be doing it at 12:45 p.m. After a busy morning of activities, about this time, we were supposed to be picking up cake and heading to the rec center, meeting the inflatables guy and setting up for Ellie-Kate's sixth birthday party... Instead, Emmy's basketball game for today got cancelled yesterday around 4 p.m.; Ellie-Kate's game for this morning got cancelled before 8 a.m., and I got the e-mail about Ellie-Kate's tap class just before the inflatables guy called and let me know that it would be too dangerous for him to pull his trailor to Athens for the party due to the snow.
Yes, for the first time all year, the forecasts were correct-- and then some! We did get the two inches over night (and then some), and we have gotten the three inches today (and then some). Right now, we're stuck, literally, at the bottom of our hill. A few of our neighbors, in their four wheel drive vehicles, have managed to make it up, but we're not even going to try until we see a snow plow.
On the plus side, Ellie-Kate was amazing about re-scheduling her party. We told her that we'd do it on February 2, and she said okay and moved on. Meanwhile, I have to admit that I have massive cabin fever. Quite simply, I was in Walmart two days ago, frantically picking out her cake for the party and buying all of the supplies for her party at school, the Daisy Girl Scout meeting, treats for her basketball team, and enough cupcake mix for school, Daisy, basketball, and even church friends. I wasn't thinking about getting snowed in... wasn't thinking about getting enough diet coke to last if we really did get the snow... wasn't thinking about special meals that we could make if we were trapped in our house... wasn't thinking about anything other than all of the activities that got cancelled.
(heavy sigh...) Meanwhile, we're trying to make the best of it. We've played Barbies and worked on AWANA Grand Prix cars... We had enough food for a good lunch, and I'm nursing the very last Diet Coke in the house... As long as that snow plow gets here by evening, I shouldn't be too cranky with a caffeine head-ache. Also on the plus side, the girls definitely have a great sledding base, and we'll go out in the cold for some runs down our hill later this afternoon.
Just watched the video of "Let It Go" on Disney Channel. Doing my best to embrace Elsa's sentiment that "the cold never bothered me anyway." If only I had planned ahead on the whole food and beverage front :)
Hope that you're warm as you read this post!
